Who We Are
The Somali Region Journalists Association (SRJA) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that promotes and protects freedom of the press and the rights of journalists in Ethiopia. Founded in August 2020, it boasts over 65 members from across the Somali state.
The SRJA is governed by its member journalists and is committed to diversity and inclusion, firmly believing that a free and independent press is essential for a democratic and just society.
What We Do
The SRJA works to achieve its mission through a variety of activities, including:
- Advocacy: The SRJA advocates for laws and policies that protect freedom of the press and the rights of journalists. It also provides legal and financial assistance to journalists who are facing legal challenges or harassment.
- Training: The SRJA offers training and workshops on journalism skills and ethics, promoting high ethical standards in journalism.
- Professional Development: It supports the professional development of journalists by providing them with the training, tools, and support they need to do their jobs effectively.
- Working Conditions: The SRJA advocates for better pay and working conditions for journalists, promoting diversity and inclusion in the journalism profession.
- Public Awareness: It promotes public awareness of the importance of journalism and freedom of the press.

The Somali Region Journalists Association (SRJA) envisions an Ethiopia where journalists are free to report without fear, and where the public has access to accurate and reliable information.
Mission
The SRJA is dedicated to promoting and protecting freedom of the press, the rights of journalists, workers’ rights, and social justice and human rights in Ethiopia.
Objectives
To achieve its mission, the SRJA aims to:
